Pricing
Hi, I'm Adrian Johnson from Kaleidacoat In-haus.
In-Haus is the part of the Kaleidacoat group of companies which specialises in producing fantastic spray coatings from our dedicated, state-of-the-art facility just outside Lincoln.
In this blog, I'm going to run through the pricing structure of our paint spraying services for bespoke joinery.
Let's start by understanding our pricing models.
We offer three primary pricing models to cater to your unique needs. The first is 'Cost per Square Metre.' This is a popular model where your cost is calculated based on the total square meterage of the project. The price per square meter depends on several factors, which I'll explain shortly.
The second model is 'Project-Based Pricing.' In some cases, especially for complex or large projects, we offer a fixed price based on the project scope, materials used, and other project-specific variables.
Lastly, we have 'Hourly Rates.' This model is typically used for smaller tasks or touch-up work, and it's priced based on the hours worked. The rate may vary depending on the skill level required.
Now, let’s look at the factors that can influence pricing:
The first factor is 'Surface Preparation.' The condition of the timber surface plays a crucial role. New, ready-to-paint surfaces are less expensive, while surfaces requiring extensive sanding, filling, or repairs may have additional costs.
Next is the 'Type of Paint and Finish.'
The choice of paint and finish significantly impacts pricing. Specialised coatings or high-end finishes may cost more than standard options.
The 'Project Size and Complexity' also plays a significant role. Larger and more complex joinery projects typically require more time and materials, thus affecting costs. Custom designs, intricate details, and unusual shapes can increase prices.
Location matters too. Our proximity to your project location can influence pricing, this is why we tend to work within approximately 1-hour radius of our facility here in Lincoln, although that’s still a massive area, taking in cities like Sheffield, Derby, Rotherham, Hull and Nottingham. This allows us to deliver on our promises and keep our pricing competitive. Transport is a major factor in this, but more on that in a minute.
Additional Services can also affect your total cost. Services like colour matching, multi-coating, or special protective finishes come with their own pricing.
Oh, and don't forget Material Costs. We always use high-quality paint and materials, and these are factored into our pricing. We believe in transparency and ensuring you know what you're paying for.
Now, whether our customers wish to supply paint or other coating materials themselves, or we supply it, we do encourage involving us as early as possible in the specification of coatings for every project. We have years of experience here at Kaleidacoat and are more than happy to share this with you and/or the designers or specifiers for your projects. Unfortunately, we have been involved in a number of projects, where inappropriate specification of materials of application methods have led to issues with the finish and we have been tasked to find a solution. These situations inevitably lead to increased costs, delays, and general frustration. So, please do get in touch, we’re always happy to discuss your projects. We enjoy what we do!
In terms of transport, over the years we have seen joinery transported to and from our spray shop in a variety of vehicles, and with varying levels of care and attention. We have watched as inexperienced or inconsiderate drivers have poorly loaded the products that collectively our customers and we have spent considerable time and money making and finishing, without any apparent care. This inevitably leads to those products and finishes being damaged. Unfortunately, we see this all too frequently. So, in order to ensure that every product that we work on is delivered to you as we intended it to look, we do 2 things:
1.
We carry out a thorough check of every piece of joinery coming into and leaving our premises. On arrival we take photos or video to record the condition on the joinery “as delivered”, highlighting any areas of damage. Should we identify any damage or discrepancy (say in quantity, etc) we inform the customer immediately. We also conduct the same process prior to anything leaving our premises. In fact, this is an intrinsic part of our quality assurance process. This entire checking and recording process is included in any price we provide.
2.
From early 2024, we will be providing our own dedicated delivery service that will ensure every piece of joinery is collected and/or returned without being damaged, intact, and of course looking great! We are still working on the pricing of this service,Timber panels damaged in transit to us as we want to make it as competitive as possible, but we will be sure to communicate those rates with you as soon as possible.
So, to the big question of how much it costs to produce superb paint finishes, well based on the rates we have achieved during this year 2023; our current pricing (based on square metre rates) is as follows:
- Primer only starts at around £15/m2
- Satin/ matt starts at £35/m2
- Gloss is around £50/m2, with high gloss finishes coming in at £100/m2 plus.
- In terms of applying lacquers, these start at around £30/m2
- If you wish to add a stain, please allow a further £25/m2 on top of the lacquer rate.
If you require an “express” service, please allow to roughly double all of the rates above.
All prices above exclude VAT.
When talking about any prices, it’s important to remember that they are reflective of our specific costs which includes running a 4,000 sq ft facility and employing a number of highly skilled staff in our area. However, I hope this has provided you with a useful guide.
